Reading your score
What does an ATS resume score mean?
A resume ATS score is a similarity analysis: it reflects how cleanly your resume is likely to parse, how complete its structure is, and how closely it aligns with the role you are targeting. It is a guidance tool, not a prediction that you will be hired.
ResmiAI never scores your worth as a candidate. It scores the document: what a parser can read, and how clearly it connects your experience to the role. Two people with the same experience can score very differently simply because one resume is easier to read than the other.
Strong
Areas that are already well presented — keep them, and keep them consistent.
Needs attention
Areas that could be improved, such as missing keywords, long lines or inconsistent dates.
Missing
Information or job-relevant elements worth considering, such as skills the role names that your resume never mentions.
Score breakdown
The metrics behind your score
Each metric is calculated from your resume text (and the job description when you provide one), so you can see exactly why the score is what it is.
Every metric is scored from 0 to 100, and the headline score uses the same scale. A resume that is tailored to the role and covers the sections, dates, contact details, keywords and skills the analysis looks for can reach 100.
ATS compatibility
How cleanly the resume parses and how complete its core sections are.
Keyword alignment
How much of the role’s terminology appears in your resume.
Structure
Section headings, contact details and date ranges.
Skills alignment
Which of the skills named in the job description your resume already covers.
Experience relevance
How much of what the role describes is reflected in your experience.
Formatting
Patterns such as tabs, table-like spacing or very long lines.
Improving it
How to improve your resume score
Improving a score is not about adding keywords. It is about presenting your real experience, skills and results clearly, and using the terminology the role actually uses.
Use relevant experience
Lead with the work that matters for the role you are targeting.
Keep skills accurate
List the skills you genuinely have — and never list ones you do not.
Quantify achievements
Results, scope and scale are easier to read than responsibilities alone.
Tighten the structure
Standard headings, consistent dates and short lines parse reliably everywhere.
Match the terminology
If the job description uses a phrase for work you have done, use the same phrase.
Never add a skill you do not have
A checker measures alignment, not eligibility. Padding your resume with terms you cannot back up in an interview will cost you more than a missing keyword ever will.
- Add a term only when it accurately describes your experience.
- Prefer rewording what you did over inventing what you did not.
- Use the recommendations as questions to ask yourself, not as orders.

Frequently asked questions
What does an ATS resume score mean?
It is a similarity analysis of your resume, not an official score from any employer’s system. ResmiAI weighs how cleanly your resume parses, how complete its structure is, and — when you provide a job description — how closely your experience and terminology align with the role.
Is the score generated by AI?
The score itself is calculated deterministically from your resume text by fixed rules, so the same resume always produces the same result. AI is only used to understand a new job description and extract its requirements — never to judge your worth as a candidate.
Why did my score change when I added a job description?
Without a job description, ResmiAI can only assess the resume itself: structure, formatting and parsing. With one, it can also measure keyword, skills and experience alignment, which is why the job-dependent metrics appear only then.
What is a good ATS score?
A score of 80 or above means the resume is clearly structured and parses well. Scores between the passing threshold and 80 usually mean a few specific, fixable items. Below the threshold, the recommendations list is worth working through before you apply.
Do you store my resume to calculate the score?
No. The file is read in memory, analyzed and discarded. Only the anonymous result is kept, keyed to the file’s fingerprint, so a repeat check of the same resume and job description is instant and uses no further AI.
Can I improve the score without padding my resume?
Yes — in fact that is the only way ResmiAI recommends. Rewrite your real achievements with the role’s terminology, tighten the structure, and remove anything a parser might misread.
